Often the “oh so fun” outdoor holiday games fall in the category
“Let’s sweat till we’re soaking wet”
while you don’t feel like sweating at all!
Well, let me tell you this, Kubb is NOT one of these games!

So what is Kubb?
Kubb (pronounced as “CUP”) is an outdoor throwing game that combines skill, tactics and relaxed competition. The game originates from Sweden and is traditionally played on grass, sand or any flat surface. Two teams face each other with one clear goal: knock down all of the opponent’s wooden blocks and only then take down the king in the center of the field.
What makes Kubb unique is its balance. It is easy to learn within minutes, yet challenging enough to keep every round exciting. You can play it casually with friends or take it seriously and turn it into a tactical battle where placement, precision and teamwork decide the outcome.
Don’t have a Kubb game at home but interested to experience the amount of fun of this outdoor game? I came up with an idea to build a Kubb game yourself with a number of ordinary household-items!
A game for everyone
ubb is suitable for almost all ages and group sizes. You can play one on one, in small teams or with larger groups during parties, holidays or family gatherings. Because the rules are straightforward and the pace is relaxed, everyone can join in without feeling overwhelmed.
Typical reasons people love Kubb:
• It is social and competitive without being intense
• Games can be short or extended, depending on how you play
• It works just as well at the beach, in a park or in your backyard
How the game works in short
Each team starts with five wooden blocks, called kubbs, placed on their baseline. Teams take turns throwing wooden batons underhand to knock down the opponent’s kubbs. Any kubbs that fall are thrown back into the field and must be knocked down first before attacking the baseline again. Only when all kubbs are down may a team aim for the king in the center. Hit the king too early and you instantly lose the game.
This simple rule creates depth, strategy and tension until the very last throw.
Why Kubb keeps growing in popularity
Kubb has grown from a traditional Scandinavian game into an international outdoor classic. It fits perfectly with slow outdoor living, screen free fun and spending quality time together. No batteries, no apps, just wood, space and good company.
If you are looking for a game that is easy to start, hard to master and always fun to play, Kubb is exactly that.
Is Kubb Dangerous?
Kubb is extremely dangerous! There is a huge chance to get addicted 😃
The combination of relaxation and competition makes it a perfect holiday game! It is a game that can be played by all ages which makes it the perfect family game!
And no, it is not really dangerous. Just make sure you take a few steps back as soon as the opponent throws the throwing sticks towards your Kubbs.

Original Kubb set
There are a lot of Kubb sets out there. The variation in price is big, but there are also serious differences. The size and weight influence the game-play. But to give you some guidance, I tested a number of sets and listed my experiences. In this list I go from a “Kubb game Original” to a “Kubb Game for the kids”.
